This event was supported through the City of Abbotsford’s Culture City: Program Series. It highlighted Black History Month events with a presentation on Canadian Black History, Kiganda traditional dance as part of the African dance community, storytelling, and cultural heritage activities. These elements fostered an environment of joy, learning, and connection among participants.

This summer event celebrated the African dance community with Kiganda dance, a traditional performance from central Uganda, creating a free and enjoyable space for all community members, including children. The vibrant traditional music and dance from Ghana, Iraq, Kenya, South Sudan, and Uganda infused the event with energy and joy, encouraging active participation among many attendees. Additionally, a cultural showcase highlighted cultural heritage activities through heritage items such as back cloth, banana fibre dolls, wooden sandals, and sun hats, which attracted great interest and sparked meaningful conversations.

We are a dynamic group of artists dedicated to creating original and inspiring works of art. Our community is a vibrant mix of painters, sculptors, photographers, and more, who come together to share their passion for creativity and explore new artistic frontiers. As part of our commitment to the African dance community, we celebrate cultural heritage activities, especially during Black History Month events. At social service, we believe that art is a reflection of the human experience, and we are committed to creating works that inspire, challenge, and move our audience.
